Affordable Care Act Retrenchment
Date of Event

Description
The “One Big Beautiful Bill Act” (OBBBA) is poised to make the largest cuts in federal support for health insurance coverage in United States history. Yet this law is both poorly understood and rife with uncertainty. This lecture will focus on how the OBBBA will undermine the 2010 Affordable Care Act and reduce access to health care, how Congressional Republicans enacted the law, how state officials are struggling to implement the law, and what the law means for the future of the safety net. It draws on a series of in- depth interviews with 34 state government officials, health care nonprofit officials, for-profit lobbyists, representatives of health care industry groups, and other health care experts.
